Good morning everyone! Hope you all had a great (and safe) holiday weekend!
We are having a short stretch of absolutely perfect summer weather here....sunny, low humidity, around 80 degrees each day. I so wish the entire summer could stay just like this!
Wishing you all blue skies with billowy white clouds today:
Glad to hear you had a good trip, and anniversary, Dick. Happy Anniversary to both you and Nettie. Must have been a very colorful game, indeed... with the fireworks, and the "patriots"... those darn taxes, only "fair" if someone else pays'm! Guess we're seeing that all unfold before our eyes out west, everybody wants, nobody wants to pay!
Sounds like you had fun, Roc, and great timing for the rain. There was also a "tea party" event in Charleston this weekend. Saw on the news, some guy with a sign showing Obama and a hammer & sickle logo.
So - looking forward to your pics!
The "Organizer" Confronts the Lone Apparent Obama Man At The Tea Party
The self-described organizer of the event confronted a lone Obama supporter and indicated she didn't want him talking with protesters. She threatened to follow him wherever he went for the duration of the protest. She later chastised me for daring to suggest to her that President Obama was actually born in the United States. Another protester literally shook as she yelled at me about Obama-the-socialist and the bane of government health care. Oh, how I love the First Amendment.
Apparently, the "organizer" is not a fan of the 1st Amendment. If I'd been that guy, I'd have been tempted to whip out a bullhorn and keep talking til I was hoarse! ;>
(Tea-partiers...don't read this next paragraph!!)
Personally, I long for "socialized" medicine (so to speak). My brother in law in England was feeling poorly last week. He was able to see his doctor the same day he became ill, they immediately put him in hospital for tests, diagnosed his problem, and got him on treatment...and it cost him nothing. Of course, they do pay higher taxes.... but I pay a fortune for health insurance and it still never covers more than half the cost...and there's always a wait for appointments, etc. So a little more of a step toward universal coverage would sure be nice, IMHO.
I must admit that I often complain too much about our taxes up here, but in the long run it's worth it...
sold our Honda Civic today to our neighbour and so we had to have it safetied, and then go through a Drive Clean Test....cost is 36.75 every 2 years...a money grab for the govt...and since it was just tuned up and safetied, it really didn't need it....now my neighbour who bought the car had to pay tax on part of the sale price....sure doesn't seem right to me but that's the way it works!!!!
It's the same here, Louie. There is a very high sales tax at thew time of the original purchase and a wheel tax annually. Of course, it varies state-by-state, but we do pay a heap of taxes in Nebraska.
