Yesterday I noticed this at the top of my screen:
"Announcing the Gift Store! Go to any member's profile and click the "Give a Gift" link to begin. You've got 100 credits to get started!"
Each member page has a prompt for it. Does anyone know what this is about?
I just saw that at the top of my page this morning....and was wondering the same thing. I just clicked on the x on the right, and it went away, but perhaps only temporarily...
Exploring this just a bit, I sent you a "free" gift from the link on your page , Bebop. My take on this "new" feature: it is just a way for ning to commercialize this site. While we've enjoyed a free site here, supported by the banner ads, it appears that ning is going the way with all these other social $ite$, they are here for the Money, and these trinkets seem to be immensely popular & profitable for facebook and myspace, so now we have them right here on ning.
Keith, thanks for trying this out and sending the "gift". I think I'll just ignore Ning's latest enhancement. It has nothing to do with photography or our genuine back and forth communication.
I had nothing to do with it ......
Keith is right, those trinkets are popular on other social networks. And Ning is in this for the money. They don't even announce updates & changes any more.
Click the little X.
It's a gimmick with lots of small print. All members were given 100 credits, most gifts cost 75 credits. We can buy more credits through PayPal. When you spend your credits, I get 50% but they have no monetary value. Sounds bogus to me.
Click the X.
I really hate those things. They ruin facebook for me- along with all of the other causes and clubs. Puleez. Who has time for that stuff? I'm glad this group is not into such silliness.
Note: you can drag the "You don't have any gifts yet" box to the bottom of either the center or left column of your profile page. We can not delete it.
I did feel like I knew Deb already - and it felt that way last spring when we met Keith & Diane as well - on DP we share our passions, our interests, our travels, and bits of our personal lives, through our photos and our comments - so meeting someo…
