I haven't been doing nearly enough reading recently. Looking back at some of the earlier posts, I see that you've been reading Dean Koontz, SJ. About ten years ago or so I was a real fan of his and still have a stack of his books (unread) that I haven't parted with because I keep feeling that I'm not finished with him yet although it has been awhile.

I don't think I've read any books by Jodi Picoult, but I do have one in my TBR pile that was given to me by a cousin who recommends her highly.

I'm planning to go the library tomorrow. I just checked and Harvesting the Heart is not charged out so I'll get it. I've been reading a lot lately. Some I would recommend:
A thread of grace by Mary Doria Russell
The gum thief by Douglas Coupland
Cold comfort farm by Stella Gibbons
Bastard out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison
and the last 3 I've read (since the computer died) are perennial favorites which I've read many times:
Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard (possibly my favorite book in the whole world)
The Maytrees by Annie Dillard
The Fool's Progress by Edward Abbey

I just finished Who's The Dummy Now? by Terry Fator (if you don't know who he is, he's the fabulous ventriloquist who won America's Got Talent a few seasons back..I have seen him live 2 times before he hit the big time). After reading the things he's gone through, it made me even more thrilled for him that he has signed a multi-million dollar (100 Million!!) contract in Vegas.

I have read one Jodi Picoult (can't recall the name) but enjoyed it very much. So, I'll put the one you mention on my "to read" list, Sj. Next, I hope to read "The Host", which I got because it was on the best-seller list forever and is kind of sci-fi. Anyone read it?

I've also read some Dean Koontz lately - I'd never really read much of his stuff before, but have discovered he interjects a dark and quirky sense of humor into his mysteries that I like. I may just become a fan!

I just finished one of Jodi Picoult's first novels, Harvesting the Heart, which was excellent! I've read most of her stuff, but had never read this one....it may be among her best, IMO.

I recently 'forced' myself to finish "Full Moon" or something by Jeffrey Deavers. I like the auther but this was not up to par.
When ever I want a fast pace, easy action novel I go back to Clive Cusler. I'm flying through "The Treasure of Kahn". It's better than being on-line, lol.

Popped in to see what I've missed! Hmmmm. Well, to pick up from April.... Lea, there was a time when I was a S. King junkie. Read every one, up until...pribably just after the Gunslinger series. I have a friend that keeps buying me 1st editions of his new books, none of which I've read yet. !

Currently I'm reading - when I can - The Great Fire, by Shirley Hazzard. I'm enjoying it, but can't really say why. It's more of a mood piece with interesting characters, but not alot happens. It's set mainly in China and Japan in the years following WW2; the main characters are English.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

I am just getting into a very interesting book (a present from my son) entitled Eden's Outcasts. This is about Louisa May Alcott and her father, Bronson Alcott. I read anything and everything I can get my hands on about the Transcendentalists so this one had my attention right away. Bronson was a far out dreamer with ideas about education and child rearing that would be considered off the wall even today. Louisa's upbringing is a result. Thoreau and Emerson both looked after the family and made sure they had a roof over their heads and food to eat. This is fascinating reading.

Superb catch. 5 I always like the way the nuthatches look like they were shorted in the tail department. Just proves a big rudder isn't necessary when you are good at navigation! [grin]
