May I join in..or follow up.. as the case may be?
I saw that you had your top ten list, so I did an impromptu shuffle through my memory and these are the top ten that came to my mind. I'm going to post them before reading yours, so I won't start to second guess myself.

It's a little skewed toward more recent years. If I think longer, it could change. :)
To Kill a Mockingbird
Rear Window
Lawrence of Arabia
Children of Men
The Usual Suspects
Out of Africa
Local Hero
The Sixth Sense
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Auntie Mame

Deb, nice list. You have some titles we haven't seen; Children of Men, Local Hero, and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. I'll check them out on the Blockbuster site. Thanks for sharing.

Rok:
12 Angry Men - a classic! Didn't think of it.
Casablanca - of course! :)
Haven't seen For the Love of the Game, but I really liked Field of Dreams.
I loved Il Postino.

Of course, Nettie and I love baseball. This movie (For Love of the Game), though, is a love story told through the innings of a single major league baseball game. Costner is very into baseball and comes out here to Omaha each year for the NCAA College World Series.

Okay, here I go... I've been thinking about this, and narrowing it to ten is really tough. So first I'll list 10 of the absolute best films I've ever seen. Then comes a second list of even more that are also films I love for various reasons. I've seen every one of these at least twice, sometimes much more. I can guarantee that I have left out some that should be on here. Oh well.
Top ten
-The Piano (1993) - directed by Jane Campion, with Holly Hunter and Harvey Keitel (Australia)
-La Strada (1954) - directed by Fellini, with Anthony Quinn and Giulietta Masina (Italy)

-Yes (2004) - directed by Sally Potter, with Joan Allen, Shirley Henderso, Sam Neill (England)
-Dead Man (1995) - directed by Jim Jarmusch, with Johnny Depp, Gary Farmer (USA)

and here are more that I absolutely love (but without so much detail)

Oh, don't be concerned about the number of lists. You have a potpourri of films that me thinks Nettie and I would enjoy and there are many we have already enjoyed.

Smile. I enjoyed Red as well as Blue. I like your list and recognize many of the titles. Some are certainly worthy of another viewing while others warrant a first time look. I must confess, however, that I had great difficulty with Pulp Fiction.

Secrets and Lies! I forgot about that one, Bebop. Definitely waaay up there on my list, too. I'm going to check out some others you've listed there, though I recall seeing "Unbearable Lightness..." when it was first release and referring to it afterward as the "Unbearable Longness..". ;> Might feel differently if I saw it now.

Rok, "Lock, Stock, and...." is an funnier, less violent than "Pulp Fiction", British story of some hapless, low-level criminals who end up ok in spite of themselves. I know you'd love Local Hero, also a British film, set in Scotland. Wonderful! Children of Men, much more recent, future fiction kind of thing, but the cinematography and direction are pretty impresive.

Oh! Just remembered one more, My Favorite Year, if you are a Peter O'Toole fan.

Unbearable Lightness of Being is definitely an acquired taste. Some of what I loved about it:
-The cinematography is gorgeous (as is any film by Philip Kaufman--think of Henry and June)
-I love the novels of Milan Kundera and this was one of his best, and beautifully adapted for film. He really got Kundera's feelings of angst, joy, kitsch and humor.
-Some of my favorite actors are in it: Daniel Day-Lewis, Juliette Binoche, Lena Olin
-I think it really got the feeling of the 60's and the Prague Spring.
-This was my introduction to Juliette Binoche. I loved her character...and she was a photographer!

Juliette Binoche is the bomb!!! Now, that I think of it, Ms. Bop, I have to add Chocolat to my ever-changing faves list.
