Adding "Slumdog" to our "to see" list too...saw The Express last night, we both liked it

Dennis Quade was real good as was Rob Brown (fairly new actor I think), sure shows the some of ugliness that teams faced playing in racist venues

I haven't posted here yet, but have been reading all your reviews and suggestions. I'm afraid I haven't seen very many movies lately, so feel I don't have much to contribute at this point, but I do recognize some of those you have posted and/or reviewed here. You're inspiring me to start watching more!

Last night, we watched another in a series of movies featuring Academy Award-winning "actor" performances. This one starred William Holden in Stalag 17. A WW2 German prisoner of war barracks is populated by American sergeants--there is an informant among the prisoners and the plot deals primarily with that situation, but there are many asides and hijinks along the way. Directed by Billy Wilder, me thinks Stalag 17 has a bit too much Some Like It Hot meets Otto Preminger (who portrays the prison camp commander). The performance by William Holden is pretty solid and tough, particularly when compared to the rest of the cast, but it didn't seem Oscar-worthy to me. There's an interesting sequence regarding a visit to the prison camp by the "Geneva man." It seemed remarkably naive in light of our recent torture, mistreatment, status issues with GTMO (the correct US Navy acronym, by the way) and other US detention camps. In this sense, the movie reflected its time quite well, I think. In general, however, the storyline had much more potential than this movie realized. I'd give Stalag 17 two-and-a-half stars out of five.

We already have it in our Netflix queue. It may take a while.

Slumdog Millionaire, we were able to make some lemonade out of lemons last evening. Our Sister-in-law and niece were arriving from SoCal last evening. When their arrival was weather delayed, DeeDee and I had the opportunity to... catch-a-flick before they arrived. So it was Slumdog Millionaire. We both loved it. Everyone has surely not only heard of it by now, but most probably also seen it by now. We thought it was a very simple love story, told exceptionally well. Took us to a part of the world DeeDee has seen many times, and I've only experienced through her reflections to me.

As much as we were disappointed by Taken, we were impressed with Slumdog Millinaire. Time well spent!

Judy Davis! My Brilliant Career, an oldie of hers that I loved.

PS (regarding Sergeant York). It's only briefly a warmovie--perhaps 20minutes of combat out of a two-hour-and-ten-minute movie. The film is mostly about York's evolution as a conscientious objector.

Oh my, Judy Davis should have been on my list. It was an oversight, I think she's great! Not so familiar with the other names, but I'll seek them out. I've added I've Loved You So Long to our "to view" lost. Thank you.

He's not drinking hemlock, is he? [grin] The titles of these two pictures together worried me. Nice focal points accenting the big picture.

Mother Nature is such a wonder. When she wants to, she can cram more beauty into a given area than a human would ever conceive. You have caught a microcosm of the entire area in one spot. 5
