We have a new icon.
It's a polarized pic with the center erased, punched out at max twice to become a frame. A new warped radiant layer and text were added in the background.

This is beautiful, Andy. Very much what I had in mind when I said 'Art'.

This was inspired by a comment from Patricia Shriver. It became a learning experience. One selected pic on top of an unedited one.

master the cloning brush, if you have a cloning brush.

I've done some restoration work but I find it very exciting when I start on a picture and very boring before I finish. Like Al, I have gone to the pixel level and that is a labour of love! Some pictures look just fine untouched (in my opinion only) because they are after all, "old pictures" and their authenticity is in their tattered look. Of course some one-of-a-kind portraits, I find, deserve the extra effort to be made perfect.

A lot of time can be saved by cropping close to the subject(s) and working on restoring just the area of interest.

I feel it's still photography if I am taking the picture or rescuing it. I have a cookie tin full of my mother-in-law's pics to be scanned, documented and filed! Work work work!! lol

I have not. I know Nancy has. I have done cleanup work on pics working down to the pixel level - I would think it would be similar. Cloning/spot healing must be involved.

I'm using PhotoShop CS2, I've been working on restoring some of our old images, no one has the neg's so scanning was sorta a last ditch effort to keep them. The first is the original scan, 2nd the one I've been working on.

Have you done anything like this? If yes, any suggestions?

Really nice for the nearly unique lighting. Wonderful tones. Might consider a bit tighter crop.

Unlike many, I like driving in snow. It's not bad if one slows down and doesn't try to hurry. Nice capture.
