Profile Information

Home state or region:
South Carolina
About Me:
I'm a native of the "Lowcountry" of So.Carolina, and though I've lived other places, (D.C., Miami, Sacramento), I always come home. Love heat and hate cold. I'm an obsessed gardener if not an accomplished one (yet). I take pics as a hobby and am trying to become a better photographer. The garden is my favorite subject. My Picasa web page (below) was started mainly so family members in the UK could see my garden and the town where we live, but all are welcome!
Favorite camera:
Nikon P80. (Don't have any others. ;-> )
Favorite photo subject:
Garden, wildlife, anything colorful.

Anyone read Russian or recognize these?

My aunt had several boxes of these enamel pins. They appear to have all come from Russia (or the Soviet Union). Some have ships, some seem to have some military theme, some have space program symbols. Are the just some souvenir sold on the street? Anyone have a clue? Anyone know where would be a good place to search for info about them?

How Not to be Seen

I often have posted shots with this caption, "How not to be seen." (From an old Monty Python sketch.) Some illustrate a successful method, some ..not so mucn.
Here are two from this evening down by the pond. I think one has a better plan than the other.

In honor of the "First Hunk"

Dasia and I were talking about the now famous photo of our soon-to-be President, shirtless in Hawaii. One tabloid called him First Hunk, not me. :) (Though I can't disagree.)
Das wondered if they wouldl have published photos of a shirtless McCain.

Anyway, reminded me of this faux-poster from a couple of weeks before the election.

Here 'tis, just because it made me laugh. ... WARNING: Contains a mild four-letter word.!!

Thanks for the comment on "she picks flowers"
I'm not sure if she knew I was taking her picture but she does have that contemplative look quite often, which makes her a perfect subject!

The ISO on a digital camera is the same as film speed on a conventional camera. 100 is for bright sunny days. Try several shots at varying speeds up to as high as you want and notice the results. Several of these settings on the same subject will help you see what changes it makes.

The serious discussion took place when we had a holiday lunch with some of our former co-workers. DH (on the right) used to be their boss and they were trying to figure out how to keep giving good service with all the budget cuts and layoff fears.
