Profile Information

Home state or region:
South Carolina
About Me:
I'm a native of the "Lowcountry" of So.Carolina, and though I've lived other places, (D.C., Miami, Sacramento), I always come home. Love heat and hate cold. I'm an obsessed gardener if not an accomplished one (yet). I take pics as a hobby and am trying to become a better photographer. The garden is my favorite subject. My Picasa web page (below) was started mainly so family members in the UK could see my garden and the town where we live, but all are welcome!
Favorite camera:
Nikon P80. (Don't have any others. ;-> )
Favorite photo subject:
Garden, wildlife, anything colorful.

And I like the look of the 3rd one, too, even with the book titles as they are. Nice light.

How Not to be Seen

I often have posted shots with this caption, "How not to be seen." (From an old Monty Python sketch.) Some illustrate a successful method, some ..not so mucn.
Here are two from this evening down by the pond. I think one has a better plan than the other.

In honor of the "First Hunk"

Dasia and I were talking about the now famous photo of our soon-to-be President, shirtless in Hawaii. One tabloid called him First Hunk, not me. :) (Though I can't disagree.)
Das wondered if they wouldl have published photos of a shirtless McCain.

Anyway, reminded me of this faux-poster from a couple of weeks before the election.

Here 'tis, just because it made me laugh. ... WARNING: Contains a mild four-letter word.!!

Thanks! I'm just happy about the results as they are. I really think it's good to spread the glory around. It's funny how those shots happen. I went out to the garden to take a picture of the dahlia Yvonne because she was really looking good and I just happened to notice that grasshopper on a different Yvonne blossom than I was shooting. Same with the calendula shot. I was taking macros of bugs flat on the ground and just happened to look up and saw the underside of the calendula backlit with the blue sky. Serendipity!

Hi Deb! I just viewed the winners of the DG photo contest and I see you've taken some honors there! Congrats! Actually, I recognized your "touch" on quite a few of the entries, and am pleased to say that I voted for you a number of times! Great Job!

I have a lot of Irish friends. They treated me to the Original River Dance when it toured through Columbus. That inspired the banner. We blew it up to 10 feet long for one of the guys' birthday.

Thank you, Deb, for your comments on "A Quiet Corner of a Pool" (a stress reliever) and "Slowly Eroding Lanikai Beach" (a contentious issue as the city government of Honolulu is spending lots of money replenishing the eroding white sand - i.e., with the bad economy and the spiraling downward trend in real estate, is it still worth the money to spend it on an endless projects?). With these photos, we're reminded of the great photojournalist W. Eugene Smith when he said, "Let the truth be prejudiced."

I've borrowed from you, Deb, as I've "dipped into the wayback machine" for my first two shots. They were taken years ago with my old Ricoh SLR and scanned for this challenge.

it's been an odd season here, too, Tw. Some things bloomed very poorly, that normally do very well..and vice versa. Hope your Osteo buds get to be flowers before it gets too cold. :)
