In my younger years, I used to ice fish all the time. Its a cold sport, but when they were biting it was great fun to have my Son and Daughter pulling them up out of the hole.

Great capture... did you get the sense that the tow truck was just cruising along waiting for that little car to slip out of the ruts?

56 sounds balmy to me at the moment! Though, for EYW, that's practically frigid!

Wonderful to have those photos, Bebop. Obviously the visual arts run in your family. Do I see a little family resemblance in your grandmother's face? I think so.

Just looks cold to me. I'm not sure why anyone would do it for fun though. :)

I love your sunrises, Keith, specially that first one. We don't often get that lighting of the clouds from underneath as you do with your wide open spaces.

I've been working on my day book project. In addition to putting lots of my photos in it, I have been scanning some old family photos. Here is my Grandpa Pete (I had posted a photo of him as an old man before). Here he was in 1901, a photographer in…

ISO

Just perusing the most recent edition of MacWorld. On page 79 they have an article on the Nikon D3S.
"...The high-end DSLR boasts a light-sensitivity range of up to ISO 12,800, as well as an enhanced mode that further extends the range to the equivalent of ISO 102,400

Now I still have much more to learn about my new Nikon D90, than I have already learned. Pushing the ISO limits is above my knowledge level. ISO is something I've always equated to the film version of "film speed". W… Continue

Headed out on a road trip... cameras in tow

For the next couple weeks we'll be heading out into the prairie. First a few days in Rapid City, where we just might be lucky enough to catch one day of the "Black Hills Pow Wow" which is the Lakota gathering for dancing, fancy costumes and exhibits... might make a very different challenge to photograph... very colorful, indoor (flash) photography. I've done none, or very little of this... guess we'll see how they turn out.

Then on to the smallest (population wise) state capital, Pierre. May be… Continue

Wintertime travel in a high alpine environment

Yesterday was a "Volunteer Day" for DeeDee and me over at Beaver Creek Ski Resort. That resort is 75 miles from our cabin. The trip over was quick and easy; we made the trip in an hour and thirty-five minutes. The trip back home was more problematic and is what prompts me to write this Blog entry.

We left Beaver Creek at 4:15 pm. We arrived back at our cabin at 7:30 pm. The drive from Vail to the top of Vail Pass was a two hour trip, a distance of 14 miles!

It had been snowing for about two ho… Continue
