Off On a Road Trip

Headed North on Thursday for a weekend in the old stomping grounds. Drove past Whiskeytown Lake at sunset but couldn't stop to watch it as dinner was waiting in Dairyville. Friday Patti and I headed north on I-5 determined to connect 9 hours later with Amtrak in Portland (she was continuing on to Tacoma). In the event we don't connect I have 2-2.5 more hours to drive to get to Port Orchard. Miraculously we made it with an hour to spare. I dropped Patti off at Union Station then headed for dinContinue

Difficult to Find Time and Opportunity for Photography

Since I moved here on May 1st I haven't had a lot of enthusiasm for shooting pics. The mornings start out foggy on the beach (1 mile away) with a heavy marine layer overhead. Around noon the sun might make an appearance for the remainder of the day. Can't always count on that though and that direct sun of the midday doesn't create the ideal environment for photos.

In addition I am still involved with the task of replacing electrical fixtures, getting the plumbing up to date in 3 bathrooms, u

Zero Hour is zooming up on me

Tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. I pick up the UHaul Truck in which I will move from Portland-Metro to the North Coast of California.

Reality is sinking in. I can't believe it is really this close. 2 rooms remain unpacked and unorganized. I don't think it will be a problem but I must say it is a bit scary.

I had to revert to Plan B when Robin called last night to let me know her Dad is in the ICU with Pneumonia and other serious problems. She had planned to accompany my trip south as the driver of m… Continue

Only if the picture is used for a commercial purpose would the publisher ever ask for a release

The confusion over whether a public object can be photographed and published most usually comes from persons who arrive at the stock photography industry through the commercial door rather than through the editorial door. For example, photographers who have worked for a newspaper most of their career, know that model or property releases are not needed if the photo is to be used "to inform or to educate." Conversely, photographers who have worked in the commercial or advertising sector, e.g. cor… Continue

Hey, welcome back. I was thinking about you a few days ago, wondering when you would be posting again. I LOVE your pics of the coast. I was in the Mendocino area only once, about ten years ago, and fell in love with that part of the world. Keep those photos coming!

When I was in H.S., we had no air conditioning and we lived in the country. Our house was surrounded by a neighboring farmer's pasture in which he kept app. 40 Holsteins. Because of the heat, I practiced on the back porch. This must have been pleasing to the cows, because they would all gather from all parts of the field and literally press on the fence listening. They would not leave until I took the horn inside. After a coupleof weeks, all I had to do was set the horn on the porch and whistle. They all came running.

I carried a major in string bass and tuba until I sawed up my left index finger on a summer job trying to makes some money to stay in school. I added trombone after that.

The string bass player in our college concert band was also a Patricia - Pat Partee. We made great partners in crime.

Only in the eyes of my daughters when they were teenagers. I am retired fro 17 years as a public school band and choir director and then 20 years as a retail appliance salesman. Now that I have retired, I am actively working as a freelance humor writer and photographer.

Okay. First time I was ever wrong. [grin] If you believe that, are you interested in some prime swamp land in Florida? Thanks for trying it and letting me know.

This was on full automatic with a Nikor 25-80 mm lens. A young lady was lined up waiting for the judge's approach. this starter as full horse and rider, but I cut out the head with the magic wand tool in Photoshop and the set the gradient areound it. I kind of got this one by the back door. One thing that I think helped here was that it was a cloudy day, so shadows were no worry and I used no flash.
