This is wonderful. The DOF is perfect and the color placement adds to the ability to see the fly/bee whatever.

Profile Information

Home state or region:
Scotland
About Me:
Retired Chartered Psychologist with so many interests that I wonder how I ever had time to work for forty years.
Favorite camera:
Fuji S59600 with my little Fuji 50fd a close second.
Favorite photo subject:
Flowers and shapes/patterns overall but I will photograph pretty much anything. I am really keen on macro photography-- I like the challenge.
I have an interest in digital imaging using Photoshop and I am just playing around with 'raw' images---- my aim is to get into HDR photography but sadly my camera won't do both 'raw' and 'bracketing' at the same time so it will have to be done via 'aperture priority --- ah well I do like a challenge

Hidden Detail

Lately I have been dipping a toe in the waters of 'raw' imaging but I am not experienced enough yet to blog about it.

Unless a digital camera can be set on 'raw' they all, automatically, compress the image into a JPEG. I experimented this aspect recently by taking the same shot, from a tripod, at 12 million pixels and then in 'raw'.

In the first instance it had an image size of 3.20 MB --- and in the second, exactly the same shot in 'raw', had 18.65MB showing how much information had been l

Painting with light ?

Yesterday I was working on the two images below and said to myself ' This is an example of how an image can be altered to make a totally different image that has its own unique feeling tone and appeal.' I often have conversations with myself :-)

So this, photographed on the seashore at Culross, was the, minimally worked, image ---Photoshop crop and levels only were used.

Art or Realism

My last blog post raised a very interesting point . Are we as photographers purely about recording 'the picture as we see it' or are we about producing an improved image .

It seems to me that the one could be considerd to be about 'realism' photography while the other is more about 'art' .

From that perspective there would seem to be no right or wrong . Some images are suited to realism (Photo Journalism for example) and others are definitely more than just realism . In the end it comes dow

Amazed

Going on days out it is not always convenient to have the big Fuji S9600 around so I went looking for something that would fit in my pocket and had a high spec.

Eventually I settled on the Fuji Finepix 50fd because it had all I wanted --- the cards are compatible with my big Fuji ----it shoots a massive 12 million pixels at fine resolution----it fits in the palm of my hand---- it has 28-105 lens----and, above all for my aging hands 'image stabilisation'.

I received it a couple of weeks ago

Just having a wee test run

Still working out how this 'blogging business' works and wondered if I can add pics to the blog---so I tried one or two approaches but I think I have now hit on one that works.

Obviously a blogger --- I guess that is what I am now ---- well you are never too late to gain a new title in life are you!!!!!----from Scotland should be suitably represented by a Scotsman ---- as the picture round about this guy on Princes Street, Edinburgh was totally uninteresting I 'monoed' it in Photoshop --- is

Thanks so much for always leaving such nice comments on my photos - I really enjoy being a part of this group. It's really cool how we have all developed our own styles of photography - it's getting so I can tell what photos belong to whom before I even see the name! Your photos are always so distinctive - I love your style!
