Daily Pics

We were under a severe storm watch Sunday afternoon. A quick look at radar showed it passing north of us, no problem. We could hear the thunder from the heavy clouds but the sun was out. Everything changed 30 minutes later, clouds came in fast and dark, crisp lightning, big rain drops. Then the hail, so much hail.
A flowing river of hail stones.

The front lawn is covered.

Hens & Chicks are covered but undamaged.

What is left of my tomato plants.

The boc choi is in shreads, my freshly planted cantaloupe seeds are who knows where.

The storm lasted for 3 hours giving us 3.5 inches of rain. There were cars stranded in low spots, lightning strikes started fires, homes were flooded.
We had relatively small hail of less than an inch diameter, some reports came in of 2 inch hail. Shreaded leaves covered the lawn and car.

Wow, that really was a nasty storm. Sorry to hear you lost some of your plantings but that it wasn't as bad as in some areas. We were under a severe thunderstorm watch, too. By early evening as we sat on the deck you could see dark and threatening skies off in the distance. I checked radar and saw that there was a pretty large band of storms moving through although not all parts of it were of the severe variety. We ended up with a shortlived and not very strong storm resulting in about 1/4 inch of rain.

Wow, sorry you got hit so hard! We also had a short but very heavy downpour - lightning and chance of hail were predicted, but luckily did not materialize. Sorry too, that you lost some of your new plantings....although that is a very cool shot of the hens & chicks covered in hailstones! Hopefully some of your plants will survive, they can be amazingly resilient!

Follow-up
The tomatoes will be OK but set back. Some lost their crown.
The hostas will look shredded for a while.
My concern is the Asiatic Lilies, they are in bud. Many buds got damaged or knocked off.
Many of the butterfly weed plants are snapped, also with buds.
The strawberries & blackberries have shredded leaves, the green strawberries are dinged and mud covered. Everything is covered in mud splash. This weeks rain should wash that off.

sorry to hear that Andy...we got a burst of rain today and one large boomer...the boom waves hit our dining room window and it knocked 2 wine corks that I use as spacers to keep our stained glass window away from the window....never seen that happen before

I decided not to replace the tomatoes even though I have spares. Not sure if I'll replant the cantaloupe.
I picked the first strawberries yesterday, all bruised, junk.

Update: Half of the cantaloupe seeds came up plus a few spare seeds will be fine. The tomatoes all survived, a few were set back. Only the earliest strawberries were bruised, the main season looks good.
The hostas still look ragged up close, OK from a distance.
At least the car didn't get dented like 10 years ago, lol.
