Daily Pics

I have been thinking about this for a while. DP is always growing, some folks join then are never heard from again. I've started deleting the oldest inactive members, those with little or no content. I'll be working my way forward in the member list, those with no activity in a year will go first.
This is no reflection on the member but to delete them they must be banned. If they never visit, they will never know and they can appeal the banning.
DP has a lot of content, I have to lighten the load of storage space. Inactive members is step one, the easy part.
So, it will be a long time before we reach 300 members again.

Good idea. How much space will this free up?

This will free up very little space but it will make the next step easier when the time comes.

I think deleting members who haven't been active in a long time is a good idea. For the next step: some other photo sites limit members to 3 uploads daily. Maybe that is something to think about for the future....not only will it mean less photos uploaded every day (even though some of us don't even reach that limit most of the time) it will also encourage people to upload their BEST work as well!

Yes, I've been toying with the idea of reducing the daily limit to 4 for a while. I like the Weekly Challenge has a '1 pic per day' limit. The Daily may get reduced to 3 or so.
Videos eat up tons of space. A few inactive members loaded a some and never came back. Some are pretty good. A 60 second limit and some encouragement to use links may help there.

I hate to place restrictions. I'll do a little cleaning for now, I'll start DP2 if the task gets too painful.

Andy, would it help if some of went back through our photos we've posted and deleted some of our older ones? I'd be happy to go "clean out" some of mine, if it'd help.

I agree that it would be a good idea to reduce the daily limit to 3 (or even 2). Much as I love to look at everyone's photos, it takes a lot of time to give each one the attention it deserves when there are so many piling up.

We'll stick to 6 per day for now. I think 2 or 3 is too restrictive.
You can delete any old duplicates or shots that have never had a comment. Lets not erase our history, though.
I would rather have a DP2 than turn DP into a skeleton.
Let's see how far we can go before the warning. I'll do a thorough house cleaning then which will give us plenty of extra time. How much time? I don't know. I don't even know if we really are filling up. The only way to know is to get the warning.

I have gone through all of 2007 deleting most inactive members, not all. We are down 40 something members.
