Daily Pics

This started a few days ago with an empty pet carrier by my neighbors back yard fence. He has a double depth lot spanning two streets.
He takes care of about 7 feral cats, all neutered. I guess the word is out.
We were chatting yesterday evening by his fish pond when I heard an unfamiliar meow. Then a small gray cat appeared from around the garage. It was cautious but friendly, I asked if it was a new one and my buddy said "Looks new to me". He had been on the look out for a new one since the empty carrier showed up.
This poor cat was a mess, fur all matted and dirty. Morris, the largest feral was sitting nearby and hissing.
I suggested the new one may be hungry, a fresh can of food was offered and quickly devoured. That's when we noticed this kitty may be pregnant. My buddy picked it up and checked, "It's a female, and pregnant."
He made a call to his cat rescue friend in the next town and arranged to drop it off right away. He grabbed his clean carrier and without much effort got the cat in and was off.
I fear more incidents like this will happen because our local chapter of the SPCA is closing due to lack of funds.

Lack of funds seems to be the new way of life in many areas! Thank goodness for people with kind hearts that take strays in!

I spoke to my neighbor today. The cat is doing fine, all cleaned up and apparently in good health. She's in a large, clean cage waiting for a full checkup on Monday.

There used to be a feral colony in a barn near me. I don't know how many cats there were at its peak population, but I often noticed that some of the cats and kittens looked to be in need of veterinary assistance. Finally a rescue organization rounded them all up and I can only hope that many of them found kind and loving homes. Good luck to this pregnant kitty.

I have a friend who has a menagerie of her own...dogs, cats, horses, ducks, etc....but still takes in foster dogs and then works to get them adopted. After noticing a weight gain in her most newly acquired foster dog, she's come to the realization that this one is pregnant, something she hadn't counted on. She's not quite sure how she's going to handle this as she has plans to be out of town at about the time this dog is likely to deliver.

We've done a lot of cat rescue over the years, and it normally is a trap, spay/neuter, shots, and back out. Most of them have been feral too long to tame down, but we have a couple in the house that, after years of hanging around, might now get up on the bed and be petted, but still have a strong flight instinct if something startles them.

Really nice for the nearly unique lighting. Wonderful tones. Might consider a bit tighter crop.

Unlike many, I like driving in snow. It's not bad if one slows down and doesn't try to hurry. Nice capture.
