Daily Pics

Yesterday hubby and I visited a pond on Long Island, and were "treated" to a geese mating ritual that neither of us had ever seen before. I think that Nature is amazing and found this to be a great educational opportunity, however in deference to personal taste, I will publish this series of events as a blog rather than on the Main Page:

At first they ignored each other, then suddenly the female started it - she charged the male and began vigorously pecking at his back - then he turned on her and tried to peck back, but she turned coy and swam away, but he caught up with her and the mating began.
At one point, we were sure he was drowning her:

where did she go??

at the end, they went their own ways:

I never knew that they mated in water either! At first we didn't realize what was happening, I'm glad I had my camera ready!

Not sure why I have not previously stumbled upon this series Susan, but today here it is. It is very well done, the shots are excellent, too. Surely as a farm girl you've witnesses many a farm animal doing just this? We've had the pleasure of witnessing Turtles and Lobster going through this process too. It seems to be a special moment when nature allows us to be a spectator, as its creatures go about...
