I'm very, very jealous, Andy. Your clip brings back some very pleasant memories in which I sat mesmerized watching the emergence of the little mantids. I had an adult mantis in my yard until mid-November (it stuck close to the house), but I don't think it had a mate. I'm thinking that any that appear on the scene this year will be coming in from outside my yard.

I was lucky to catch this at the right time. They were all out, many were just 'drying off', still white. I looked again a couple hours later, they were scattered and already getting color.
A second egg case is on a rose bush in a warmer spot. They came out this morning too but getting pics was hard with the location. They were dropping on the ground where I stood, climbing on my shoes. The aphid problem on the rose bush is solved, lol.
This is the third year watching for them to hatch, first time I see it. I got a double header too.
